Day 1 Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport. (JRO) in Arusha, Tanzania. Arriving flights are generally late evening. Transfer to Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge or similar hotel.
Day 2 Relax, adjust to time change, enjoy the scenery and spend another night at the Coffee Plantation.
Day 3 Morning departure for Kirurumu Tented Lodge near
Lake
Manyara
National Park
. Afternoon photo game drive in
Lake
Manyara
National Park
which is famous for its tree climbing lions. Return to Lodge and enjoy the beautiful view from the bar and a delicious gourmet dinner.
Day 4 After breakfast depart for the
Serengeti
National Park
. It is approximately a six hour drive. There will be plenty of time for rest stops, lunch and gift shopping at roadside shops. Late afternoon arrive at your luxury lodge in the middle of the Serengeti. Once we enter the Serengeti we will game view on our way to the lodge. Enjoy
dinner and the view.
Day 5 All day photo game drive in the Serengeti. Box lunch provided by the lodge.
Day 6 Morning game photo drive enroute to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation area. The Ngorongoro Crater is considered one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. It is a massive extinct volcano that has developed it own eco system in the caldera that is home to almost every animal that is indigenous to
East Africa
.
On the way we enjoy our box lunch at the world famous
Olduvai Gorge
. Made famous by George and Mary Leaky for their discovery of the oldest known hominid. It is still an ongoing active archaeological dig. After a short lecture we will depart for our luxury lodge on the rim of the crater. The views and the sunset have no equals. On the way we will visit a
Masai
Village
.
Day 7 Today we drive down into the crater for an all day photo game drive. Box lunch provided by our lodge. We return to the lodge in the late afternoon for showers, drinks, dinner and another beautiful sunset.
Day 8 After breakfast we depart and head back to Arusha. We will have lunch at the New Arusha Hotel, check into our day rooms and prepare for our early evening flight to
Uganda
. Upon arrival at
Entebbe
airport near
Kampala
we will transport a very short distance to a very cute guesthouse owned and operated by my Gorilla Trek company friends.
Day 9 After breakfast we transport approximately 3 hours to
Jinga
,
Uganda
where we will check into our unique luxury tented lodge overlooking the
Nile
River
.
Day 10 After breakfast we depart for our all day raft of the
Nile
River
. You can choose either a Class 3 (relatively mild with some fun rapids but no flipping over, or a Class 5 with the strong possibility of flipping over. In both cases the scenery is awesome. If you wish to stay at the lodge, relax and read by the pool overlooking the
Nile
you may do that also. We return to our lodge at the end of the day for showers, drinks and dinner.
Day 11 Today we begin our journey across
Uganda
heading to the mountains on the borders of
Uganda
,
Rwanda
and the
Congo
. We will travel about 6 hours and stay at a hotel near Maaska as this is midpoint on the drive.
Day 12 We depart after breakfast and head up into the mountains. We will check into the Travelers Rest Lodge near the mountain town of
Kisoro
. (this is another 6 hour day)
Day 13 After an early breakfast half of the group will head to the gate of the Bwindi Forest Park, (1 hour), check in and begin our Gorilla Trek. Trackers will go out early and locate our Gorilla family, then we will drive along the ridge and insert on foot. Making contact with the family could take 1 hour or 5 hours. Once we make contact we can spend one hour with them, then we must depart. We will head back out and meet our vehicles and head back to the Travelers rest hotel.
Day 14 Second half of group will Gorilla Trek today. The other half will visit the Kisoro Market or select a local tour.
Day 15 Depart Kisoro and head back to the Guesthouse near the airport. We will stop for lunch and photos at the Equator. (8-9 hours) Overnight at the airport guesthouse.
Day 16 Board our flights from
Entebbe
and head back to the
USA
.
